Gemini Twin
Waiting for the Train
They knit and they listen,
Living the past
As if it were news,
Repossessing what could never be again
Though consciously lying.
The ageing folk are now
Sterile of kin,
Brought by the council
To the station platform, nourished and
dirt-free
And measured for dying.
They wait around corners
In padded chairs
On thick-piled carpets
Anticipating anything rather than
The grave upon the green.
The train will soon meet them,
Accepting each
When the time is right,
To take them on the final journey away
Beyond the earthly scene.jw
