Gemini Twin

Distant Adoration

The name!

Thumps my breast
With a vision of heaven
Imagined, not known;
While discourse progresses
Not guessing my absence.

Those eyes

Vivaciously sparkle;
Those rounded cheeks glisten;
That shine on me shone
Never, except innocently
Distrust was their pattern.

Her presence

Not here in this ongoing party,
Nor rarely so nearly
To mine was bestowed;
Her soul never guessed
Any more than these present

That her bed was my goal.

Uncomplex aspirations thus my fleeting youth employed
From one week’s end until the next that vision I enjoyed
Of course I knew she could not share my world, my fond construction
And if she had need swift ensue our mutual destruction
But never followed quite the same unsuitable attraction
For expectations once denied
Ensure that hope is never tried
Nor love’s commitment stretched so wide
That if the taught-tensed thread should break
Such pain should follow in the wake
Of sudden ill contraction.
