Gemini Twin

I can’t believe in a God who allows...

I am Annas,
and I crucify my brother with a sneer
and justify my action with a joke.

I am Caiaphas,
and brace my hand to slay for a veneer
of unity - gummed up, alas, with blood.

I am Herod,
and my mind is dimmed by pleasures
            long since dulled
alike my life is fading as my hope.

I am Pilate,
and I stand apart in lonely broken power
and contemplate the suicide of love.

I am leaning,
idly gazing at the God I crucify
demanding why the world flows dark
            with pain.
