Gemini 3
Preface (1987)
There are three ages of poetry.
There is the poetry of youth: urgent, enquiring, hopeful, anxious to explore, to set the world to rights.
There is the poetry of the middle years.
Here is the tinge of doubt and the hint of panic: what has become of those adolescent hopes? Have the goals been acheived? Was it worth the effort? Or did we set off down quite the wrong road all those years ago? Has time already run out for making a change?
And there is the poetry of advancing years. Here, perhaps, is maturity and considered reflection. Here is insight and understanding and, at length, a quality of tranquility. But while life remains, there is still a suspicion of uncertainty.
Thirteen years have passed since the publication of Gemini Twin and the original group of Gemini Poets are now fast entering into the second poetic age. Weve lost touch with some old friends but we have a new cause which will benefit from the sales of Gemini Three: the Sangam Educational Project.
