Secret joys and public spectacles

Letting go (gently)

Letting go (gently) -
all that we were is no more:
joys, hopes, fears - all are ended -
entrusted into the hands of others
who may not care as we have cared.
All will be forgotten
save in the mind of God.

All is hidden once more:
secret joys and public spectacles
will be as if they never were.
The thicket closes back over the path
that we had trodden down -
save in the eye of God.

Memories fade,
even friends forget:
they move on into another world
that we have never lived in -
that we have had no part in.
We are left behind
save in the sight of God.

Gone is gone:
all we once knew,
all we once took pride in,
is forgotten and poured back
into the cauldron of possibility -
save in the choice of God.

Love lives on (a while)
but even love dies eventually -
save that One Love
which ever bears us up
safe in the arms of God.
