Peter denies Jesus
Peter’s
Denial (1)
There’s the companionship
We’ve all experienced that over the past 3 years
Travelling as a group, exchanging ideas, dreams, hopes
Sharing what we have, in good times and bad,
But there are limits.
I like to think I’ve been a special friend
Chosen to be witness to some extraordinary events
I haven’t always understood what I was seeing
That’s what friends are for - giving support
Sometimes questioning, having to accept
But there are limits
I’ve been with you all the way
And would have defended you in the garden
But you said ‘No’
Even so I followed when they took you away
Where were the others then?
They’d reached their limits
Now it’s just me on my own
Suddenly realising what this could mean for us both
Knowing I should be braver
But not prepared to put my life at risk
You knew this would happen - I didn’t
I am ashamed of my limits
Hoping the worst won’t happen
But deep down knowing it will
You are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice
I can only pray that I will be willing to do the same some day
For this moment I fail the test
But you have no limits

Peter’s
Denial (2)
Rock
Solid
Dependable
He is my Lord
And I am his rock
I must stand up for him
He is wrong to doubt me - I would never betray him
I will show strength and loyalty
Weren’t you with him?
No, I’ve no idea who he is
Rock
Cracking
Pull yourself together man - no more denials
He is my Lord
And I am his rock
I must stand up for him
I must show him he was wrong to doubt me
I must show strength and loyalty
Aren’t you one of them?
No, I’ve no idea who he is
Rock
Crumbling
What on Earth were you thinking?
How could you deny him again?
He is my Lord
And I am his rock
I must stand up for him
Was he right to doubt me?
I must show strength and loyalty
You are one of his friends - your accent gives you away
I’ve no idea who he is
Cock crows
Dawn breaks
God betrayed
Rock crushed
Man broken
Bitter tears fall
